Hypothesis

This study investigates the effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei L9 on dental caries caused by Streptococcus mutans in mice.

Conclusion

Lacticaseibacillus paracasei L9 significantly reduces early enamel caries and alters the oral microbiota in mice infected with Streptococcus mutans.

Supporting Evidence

  • L. paracasei L9 significantly ameliorated early enamel caries in mice.
  • L. paracasei L9 reshaped the oral microbiota by reducing pathogenic bacteria.
  • Both L. paracasei L9 and S. salivarius K12 downregulated cariogenic factors.

Takeaway

This study shows that a type of good bacteria can help prevent tooth decay in mice by fighting off bad bacteria.

Methodology

The study used a BALB/c mouse model, where mice were infected with Streptococcus mutans and treated with L. paracasei L9 for 28 days.

Limitations

The study did not include human trials and did not explore the mechanisms of L. paracasei L9 in inhibiting biofilm formation.

Participant Demographics

Male BALB/c mice aged 3 weeks.
