Hypothesis

The objective of this study was to develop a Japanese version of the SF‐PPoD and assess its reliability and validity within Japanese older adults with polypharmacy.

Conclusion

The study successfully developed and validated a Japanese version of the Short‐Form Patient Perceptions of Deprescribing (SF‐PPoD) with 11 items and a two‐dimensional structure.

Supporting Evidence

  • The Japanese SF‐PPoD demonstrated satisfactory reliability and validity.
  • Confirmatory factor analysis revealed satisfactory structural validity.
  • Cronbach's alpha showed good internal consistency.

Takeaway

Researchers created a new questionnaire to help older Japanese adults understand if they are ready to stop taking unnecessary medications.

Methodology

The SF‐PPoD was translated, back‐translated, and assessed in a cognitive interview, followed by a cross‐sectional survey with 196 patients aged 65 years or older.

Potential Biases

Participants who consented may have had positive perceptions toward their PCP, potentially skewing trust-related responses.

Limitations

Results may not be generalizable to suburban or remote areas of Japan, and non‐response bias may have affected the results.

Participant Demographics

118 males and 78 females, with a mean age of 79.2 years.
