Hypothesis
The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) in the detection and differentiation of adnexal masses.
Conclusion
MDCT is a highly sensitive and specific diagnostic method for evaluating adnexal masses and staging tumors in agreement with surgical and histopathological findings.
Supporting Evidence
- MDCT diagnosed 25 (26.3%) masses as benign and 70 (73.7%) as malignant.
- The sensitivity and specificity of MDCT for determining local extension were 72.2% and 93.4%, respectively.
- Estimated stage agreed significantly with surgical findings (Cohen's Kappa = 0.891) and histopathological findings (κ = 0.858).
Takeaway
Doctors used a special type of CT scan to check for tumors in women's ovaries, and it worked really well to tell if the tumors were cancerous or not.
Methodology
95 women with a primary diagnosis of ovarian mass underwent preoperative evaluation by a 64-slice MDCT, and results were compared with surgical and histopathological findings.
Limitations
There were cases of overstaging and understaging of tumors, indicating potential inaccuracies in MDCT.
Participant Demographics
Mean age of participants was 48.63 ± 13.93 years.
