Hypothesis

To compare the effect of two intraoral devices (titratable oral appliance-Klearway and mandibular advancement splint) in mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnea patients.

Conclusion

The Klearway appliance was more effective in treating moderate obstructive sleep apnea patients than the mandibular advancement splint.

Supporting Evidence

  • Both appliances were effective in reducing the apnea-hypopnea index.
  • The Klearway appliance provided a greater reduction in apnea events compared to the mandibular advancement splint.
  • 58% of patients using Klearway achieved significant improvement in symptoms after one week.

Takeaway

This study looked at two types of mouthpieces to help people who have trouble breathing while they sleep. One type worked better for some patients than the other.

Methodology

Twenty-four adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea were divided into two groups, each fitted with a different type of oral appliance, and their apnea-hypopnea index was measured over time.

Limitations

The sample size was small, and the results may not be generalizable to a larger population.

Participant Demographics

Mean age was 39 years, with a mean body mass index of 32.3 kg/m2.
