Hypothesis

The study aims to evaluate radiation dose-effect relationships in organs and part of organs with special regard to late side effects.

Conclusion

The RiSK registry is the only multi-centre study that evaluates radiation-associated side effects prospectively with detailed information about organ dose levels.

Supporting Evidence

  • The study started in a pilot phase in June 2001 and has been ongoing since 2004.
  • Documentation is planned for all children receiving radiotherapy in therapy trials of the GPOH.
  • The documentation forms are available in both English and German.

Takeaway

This study is like a big notebook where doctors write down how kids react to radiation treatment, so they can learn more about the good and bad effects later on.

Methodology

Radiation parameters including detailed organ doses and toxicity evaluations are collected prospectively from centers across Germany using standardized documentation forms.

Limitations

Retrospective analyses can only be performed with uncertain estimations of the radiation doses at special organs due to lack of detailed organ dose evaluation.
