Hypothesis

The study aims to clinically test the efficacy of suture ligation and mucopexy for patients with symptomatic and prolapsing hemorrhoids.

Conclusion

Suture ligation and mucopexy of hemorrhoids is an easy-to-perform technique that is well accepted by patients and has good results for prolapsing hemorrhoids.

Supporting Evidence

  • 95.6% of patients had therapeutic success after 4 weeks.
  • 98% of patients no longer had prolapse.
  • 96% of patients experienced no pain after defecation.
  • 89% of patients were asymptomatic after one year.

Takeaway

This study shows a new way to treat hemorrhoids that is quick and helps most patients feel better without much pain.

Methodology

616 patients with symptomatic and prolapsing hemorrhoids were treated using suture ligation and mucopexy, with follow-ups at 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year.

Limitations

The study did not assess preoperative anal sphincter function, which may affect the interpretation of continence disturbances.

Participant Demographics

The cohort included 361 males and 255 females, aged 11 to 93 years.
