Hypothesis
The study evaluates the role of membrane cofactor protein (MCP, CD46) during hepatocarcinogenesis.
Conclusion
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells show significantly higher MCP expression compared to liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis.
Supporting Evidence
- MCP expression in HCC was significantly higher than in liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis.
- The relative densities of MCP in HCC, liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis, and normal liver were reported.
- MCP was mainly distributed in the basolateral membrane of non-cancerous liver.
Takeaway
The study found that a protein called MCP is more present in liver cancer cells than in other liver diseases, which might help the cancer cells avoid being attacked by the immune system.
Methodology
Western blot analysis and immunohistological analysis were used to evaluate MCP distribution and intensity in liver diseases.
