Hypothesis

This study aimed to examine racial/ethnic disparities in accessing high quality home healthcare among persons living with dementia and identify the impact of the home health value-based purchasing model on these disparities.

Conclusion

The study found that while racial/ethnic disparities in accessing high quality home healthcare exist, the home health value-based purchasing model helps reduce these disparities.

Supporting Evidence

  • Blacks were 2% more likely to access high quality care compared to Whites.
  • Hispanics and Asians were about 20% less likely to access high quality care compared to Whites.
  • HHVBP increased the odds of accessing high quality home healthcare for all racial/ethnic groups.

Takeaway

This study looked at how different races get access to good home healthcare for people with dementia, and found that a new payment model helps everyone get better care.

Methodology

The study used two years of CMS home health care assessment data and compared care quality based on agency ratings.

Participant Demographics

The sample included 80.9% White, 11.9% Black, 5.6% Hispanic, and 1.6% Asian individuals living with dementia.
