Hypothesis
Does pre-treatment with desensitizing agents affect the effectiveness of in-office bleaching?
Conclusion
Desensitizer pre-treatment influenced the degree of color change during multiple bleaching sessions, but the overall outcome of bleaching was not affected.
Supporting Evidence
- Desensitizer pre-treatment showed significant differences in bleaching efficiency.
- ICON pre-treatment resulted in the least color alteration after bleaching.
- The control group had the highest degree of color alteration in the first bleaching cycle.
- GLUMA application showed insignificant color alteration compared to the control.
- Fluoride varnish did not affect bleaching efficiency.
Takeaway
This study looked at how different treatments to reduce tooth sensitivity affect the whitening of teeth. It found that while the treatments changed how much the teeth lightened, they didn't change the final whiteness after bleaching.
Methodology
Bovine teeth were stained and divided into five groups, each treated with different desensitizers before undergoing three bleaching sessions. Color changes were measured using CIELab and CIEDE2000 formulas.
Limitations
The study was in vitro, which may not fully represent clinical conditions.
Participant Demographics
Bovine teeth specimens were used in the study.
