Hypothesis

The study aims to explore the expression of different metalloproteinases (MMPs) in angiocentric midfacial lymphomas and their correlation with clinico-pathological parameters.

Conclusion

The study found no statistical significance between the different metalloproteinases and the clinical parameters, including patient status and survival.

Supporting Evidence

  • The expressions of MMP-1, 2, 3, 9, 11, 13 and TIMP-1, 2 were studied by immunohistochemistry.
  • In 13 patients, the primary tumor was localized in the nasal cavity.
  • Treatment was combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy in 60% of the cases.
  • 70% of patients died from the disease.

Takeaway

This study looked at how certain proteins in lymphomas affect the disease, but they didn't find a clear link between these proteins and how patients do.

Methodology

The study analyzed 20 cases of nasal-type T/NK cell lymphomas using immunohistochemistry and statistical tests including Fisher's exact test and Chi-square test.

Limitations

The study had a small sample size and the results may not be generalizable.

Participant Demographics

13 men and 7 women with a median age of 43 years.
