Hypothesis
To analyze the histo-morphology of cases of medullomyoblastoma and identify its divergent differentiation.
Conclusion
Medullomyoblastoma is a rare childhood tumor of the cerebellum, with most cases showing divergent differentiation identified through immunostaining.
Supporting Evidence
- Six out of seven cases showed myoid differentiation.
- Five percent of all medulloblastoma cases over six years were medullomyoblastoma.
- Immunostaining revealed various differentiations including muscle and cartilage.
Takeaway
This study looked at a rare brain tumor in kids and found that it can change into different types of cells, which is pretty unusual.
Methodology
A retrospective review of cases reported as medulloblastoma from Jan 2000 to Dec 2006, using H & E stained slides and immunohistochemical stains.
Limitations
The study is limited by the small sample size and retrospective nature.
Participant Demographics
Patients ranged in age from 3 to 28 years, with a male predominance (M:F = 6:1).
