Hypothesis

The study aims to evaluate soluble interleukin 2 receptor (sIL-2R), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and interleukin 8 (IL-8) plasma levels in psoriatic patients and IL-6 and IL-8 levels in fibroblast culture supernatants.

Conclusion

Plasma sIL-2R, IL-6, and IL-8 levels were significantly increased in psoriatic patients compared to healthy controls and decreased after treatment.

Supporting Evidence

  • Plasma sIL-2R, IL-6, and IL-8 levels were higher before treatment compared to healthy controls.
  • IL-8 plasma levels decreased after treatment.
  • Monitoring plasma sIL-2R levels could be employed as a reliable method of psoriasis activity.

Takeaway

This study looked at certain proteins in the blood of people with psoriasis to see how they change with treatment, finding that some levels go down after treatment.

Methodology

The study involved measuring plasma levels of sIL-2R, IL-6, and IL-8 in psoriatic patients and fibroblast culture supernatants using ELISA.

Limitations

Measurements of interleukin levels in cell supernatants were performed only before treatment due to ethical reasons.

Participant Demographics

106 patients (30 females, 76 males), aged 19–79 years (mean 44.9 ± 13.6 years) with moderate-to-severe psoriasis.
