Hypothesis
The expression of cell cycle related proteins would be different in HUT lesions from women at higher risk of breast cancer or with breast cancer, compared to those HUT from women without breast cancer.
Conclusion
The study found no significant difference in the expression of cell cycle related proteins in hyperplasia of usual type from patients with and without breast cancer.
Supporting Evidence
- Immunoexpression of ER, PR, p21, p53, p63, and Ki-67 was similar in HUT from the three different groups.
- Discontinuous expression of p63 in myoepithelial cells was observed around HUT adjacent to carcinomas.
- Nuclear expression of p53 and p21 was frequently higher in invasive mammary carcinomas compared to HUT.
Takeaway
The study looked at breast tissue samples to see if certain proteins related to cell growth were different in women with and without breast cancer, but they found no big differences.
Methodology
Immunohistochemical evaluation of cell cycle related proteins in breast specimens from patients with different breast conditions.
Limitations
The study did not find molecular changes in HUT that are present in other precursor lesions.
Participant Demographics
Patients aged 30 to 86 years, with a mix of pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women.
Statistical Information
P-Value
p < 0.005 for age differences between groups
