Hypothesis

The scanning time and marginal fit of ceramic crowns would not differ between the intraoral scanning systems tested.

Conclusion

The Primescan system provided superior marginal fit and shorter scanning time compared to the Omnicam systems.

Supporting Evidence

  • The Primescan system showed the best vertical fit values at 12.3 ± 6.6 μm.
  • Scanning times were shortest for the Primescan at 27.8 ± 1.9 seconds.
  • Significant differences in vertical fit were observed between the Primescan and both Omnicam systems.

Takeaway

This study looked at how well different dental scanning machines fit crowns and how long they take to scan. The Primescan was the best at both fitting and speed.

Methodology

The study involved scanning a standardized die with different intraoral scanning systems, designing and milling crowns, and measuring their fit using micro-computed tomography.

Limitations

The study was conducted in vitro, and clinical variables such as patient movements and saliva were not present.
