Hypothesis

The study aims to identify the repertoire of CD8+ T cell epitopes of the HIV-1 Gag antigen in BALB/c mice vaccinated with the HIV-1 Gag protein.

Conclusion

Newly identified CTL epitopes should be considered in the preclinical evaluation of T cell responses induced by Gag-based vaccines in mice.

Supporting Evidence

  • New Gag CD8+ T cell epitopes were identified in vaccinated mice.
  • CTL responses were directed to nine different CTL epitopes.
  • Four of the identified epitopes were mapped as minimal CTL epitopes.

Takeaway

Researchers found new parts of the HIV virus that help the immune system fight it in mice, which could help make better vaccines.

Methodology

BALB/c mice were vaccinated with HIV-1 Gag protein alone or with Tat protein, and their immune responses were analyzed using IFN-γ Elispot assays and cytotoxicity assays.

Limitations

The study is limited to mouse models, which may not fully represent human immune responses.

Participant Demographics

BALB/c mice were used in the study.
