Hypothesis
The study aims to evaluate the antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-cancer activities of Eleucine indica extracts.
Conclusion
The study found that Eleucine indica extracts possess antioxidant and antibacterial properties but show no significant cytotoxic effects on cancer cell lines.
Supporting Evidence
- The MeTH extract showed the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity.
- EA extract exhibited broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against most tested bacteria.
- Hexane extract demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against MRSA and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- None of the extracts showed significant cytotoxic activity towards MCF-7, HT-29, and CEM-SS cancer cell lines.
Takeaway
This study looked at a plant called Eleucine indica and found it can help fight germs and has some health benefits, but it doesn't kill cancer cells.
Methodology
The study used total phenolic content (TPC), DPPH, disc diffusion, and MTT cytotoxicity assays to evaluate the extracts.
Limitations
Further investigations are needed to verify the antioxidant effects in vivo.
