Hypothesis

The study aims to compare serum levels of soluble IL-2R, CD4, and CD8 in patients with allergic bronchial asthma to those in healthy subjects.

Conclusion

Patients with asthma have significantly higher levels of soluble IL-2R and soluble CD4 compared to healthy controls, while soluble CD8 levels are lower in asthma patients.

Supporting Evidence

  • Asthma patients had higher serum levels of sIL-2R and sCD4 compared to healthy subjects.
  • Lower levels of sCD8 were found in asthma patients.
  • Significant correlations were observed between sIL-2R and sCD4 levels with lung function.

Takeaway

People with asthma have more of certain proteins in their blood that show their immune system is more active than in healthy people.

Methodology

The study measured serum levels of sIL-2R, sCD4, and sCD8 in 25 asthma patients and 25 healthy controls, using enzyme immunoassays and methacholine challenges to assess lung function.

Participant Demographics

25 patients with bronchial asthma (15 women, 10 men, ages 19-54) and 25 healthy controls (16 women, 11 men, ages 20-50).
