Hypothesis

Mononuclear cell products could increase the expression of HLA-DR and ICAM-1 molecules in bronchial epithelial cells.

Conclusion

Nedocromil sodium effectively downregulates the expression of HLA-DR and ICAM-1 on bronchial epithelial cells.

Supporting Evidence

  • Nedocromil sodium inhibited HLA-DR and ICAM-1 expression in a dose-dependent manner.
  • Dexamethasone also inhibited HLA-DR and ICAM-1 expression but was less effective than nedocromil.
  • Both drugs showed a significant synergistic effect at lower concentrations.

Takeaway

This study shows that certain cells can make lung cells express more markers that help in inflammation, but a medicine called nedocromil can help reduce that expression.

Methodology

Human bronchial epithelial cells were cultured and treated with PHA-activated blood mononuclear cell conditioned media and nedocromil sodium to evaluate the expression of HLA-DR and ICAM-1.

Participant Demographics

Healthy donors provided blood samples for mononuclear cell isolation.

Statistical Information

P-Value

p<0.01 for HLA-DR and p<0.05 for ICAM-1
