Hypothesis
To assess the feasibility, effectiveness, and safety of transobturator tension-free vaginal mesh (Prolift) and concomitant tension-free vaginal tape-obturator (TVT-O) system as a treatment for female anterior vaginal wall prolapse associated with stress urinary incontinence.
Conclusion
The Prolift system offers a safe and effective treatment for female anterior vaginal wall prolapse, but long-term follow-up is necessary.
Supporting Evidence
- Eighteen patients had optimal anatomic results.
- All patients underwent a complete urodynamic assessment.
- No vessel or bladder injuries occurred during the procedure.
- All patients reported satisfaction with the surgical outcome.
Takeaway
Doctors used a special mesh to help women with bladder problems and found it worked well, but they need to check on the women later to make sure it stays good.
Methodology
Twenty patients with anterior genital prolapse and voiding dysfunction were treated with Prolift and TVT-O, followed by assessments of anatomical and functional outcomes.
Limitations
The study has a relatively short follow-up period and requires further studies to determine long-term outcomes.
Participant Demographics
Mean age was 52 years, with a range of 36 to 76 years; 80% had urinary incontinence.
