Hypothesis

The study aimed to define the antitumour activity of a weekly regimen of cisplatin, paclitaxel, and topotecan with G-CSF support in chemo-naive patients with extensive disease small cell lung cancer.

Conclusion

The weekly CPT combination with G-CSF support is a well-tolerated treatment for chemo-naive patients with extensive disease small cell lung cancer, showing promising response rates.

Supporting Evidence

  • 37 patients were treated, resulting in 8 complete responses and 22 partial responses.
  • The overall response rate was 81%.
  • Median progression-free survival was 8 months and overall survival was 12.5 months.
  • 1-year and 2-year projected survivals were 55% and 21%, respectively.
  • No toxic deaths occurred during the study.

Takeaway

Doctors gave a special mix of medicines to help people with a type of lung cancer, and many of them got better without serious side effects.

Methodology

Patients received cisplatin, paclitaxel, and topotecan weekly with G-CSF support for a maximum of 12 weeks.

Limitations

The study had a small sample size and was limited to a specific patient population.

Participant Demographics

Chemo-naive patients with extensive disease small cell lung cancer.
