Hypothesis
Can Steindler flexorplasty effectively restore elbow flexion in patients with C5-C6-C7 brachial plexus palsy?
Conclusion
Steindler flexorplasty, when complemented with wrist arthrodesis, can effectively restore elbow flexion in patients with C5-C6-C7 brachial plexus palsy.
Supporting Evidence
- 11 out of 12 patients had very good or good function of the transferred muscles after surgery.
- No major intraoperative complications were reported.
- Two patients experienced transient ulnar paresthesias that resolved without further surgery.
Takeaway
This study shows that a specific surgery can help people who can't bend their elbows because of nerve damage.
Methodology
Retrospective follow-up study of 12 patients who underwent Steindler flexorplasty and wrist arthrodesis.
Limitations
The study is limited by its small sample size and retrospective design.
Participant Demographics
10 male and 2 female patients, average age 27.2 years.
