Hypothesis

The study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the PedsQL™ 3.0 Asthma Module.

Conclusion

The Chinese version of the PedsQL™ 3.0 Asthma Module has acceptable psychometric properties, except for the internal consistency reliability for Young Child self-report.

Supporting Evidence

  • The PedsQL™ 3.0 Asthma Module distinguished between outpatients and inpatients.
  • Patients with mild asthma reported higher scores than those with moderate/severe asthma in most subscales.
  • Test-retest reliability was satisfactory with ICCs exceeding 0.80 in all subscales.

Takeaway

This study created a Chinese version of a questionnaire to help understand how asthma affects kids' quality of life, and it works pretty well.

Methodology

The PedsQL™ 3.0 Asthma Module was translated into Chinese and administered to 204 children with asthma and 337 parents, followed by evaluation of its psychometric properties.

Potential Biases

Potential bias due to different modes of administration and reliance on parent-reported asthma severity.

Limitations

The study did not evaluate the responsiveness of the scale and had small sample sizes for severe asthma and teens.

Participant Demographics

Participants included children aged 2-18 with asthma, with a majority being boys (68.84%) and suffering from mild asthma (67.36%).
