Hypothesis
Can high-volume phosphogypsum be effectively utilized in cement-stabilized road base materials?
Conclusion
The study found that high-volume phosphogypsum cement stabilized road base materials can achieve strong mechanical properties and meet environmental standards for leaching toxicity.
Supporting Evidence
- The optimal mix ratio for the road base was found to be 4% cement, 1% curing agent, 35% phosphogypsum, and 60% graded crushed stone.
- The unconfined compressive strength of the materials reached 11.3 MPa after 60 days.
- The water stability coefficient improved significantly with the addition of curing agents.
- Leaching tests showed that the materials met environmental standards for heavy metals and other pollutants.
Takeaway
This study shows that we can use a waste product called phosphogypsum to make strong road materials that are safe for the environment.
Methodology
The study involved preparing various mixtures of phosphogypsum, cement, and aggregates, followed by testing their compressive strength and water stability.
Limitations
The study did not address the economic feasibility of large-scale implementation of the proposed materials.
