Hypothesis

The study aims to determine if the anti-tumor effectiveness of electrochemotherapy with cisplatin is due to increased plasma membrane permeability from electroporation.

Conclusion

Electrochemotherapy enhances the effectiveness of cisplatin by increasing its delivery into tumor cells.

Supporting Evidence

  • Electrochemotherapy increased cell kill by a factor of 20 compared to cisplatin alone.
  • Platinum accumulation in tumors treated with electrochemotherapy was approximately two times higher than in cisplatin-treated tumors.

Takeaway

This study shows that using electric pulses with a cancer drug helps the drug get into the cancer cells better, making it work much stronger.

Methodology

The effectiveness of electrochemotherapy was evaluated on SA-1 tumors treated with electric pulses after cisplatin injection, measuring platinum accumulation and binding to DNA.
