Hypothesis

The herbal toothpaste containing A. vera did not significantly decrease BOP, PD, and CAL in periodontitis patients during SRP compared to the control and the benchmark toothpaste.

Conclusion

The herbal toothpaste containing Aloe vera significantly decreased gingival inflammation, probing depth, and clinical attachment level over the standard and active control toothpaste in periodontitis patients during active periodontal treatment.

Supporting Evidence

  • The herbal toothpaste significantly reduced bleeding on probing at week 4.
  • The probing depth decreased significantly in all groups after treatment.
  • The clinical attachment level reduction was greatest in the test group compared to the other groups.

Takeaway

Using a special toothpaste with Aloe vera can help people with gum disease feel better and improve their gum health.

Methodology

Fifty-four periodontitis patients were randomly allocated into three groups and evaluated at baseline, week 4, and week 12 after treatment.

Limitations

The study had a limited sample size and a short follow-up period.
