Hypothesis

This study aims to calculate and evaluate the association of Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and Energy-adjusted DII (E-DII) with fall risk in the elderly.

Conclusion

Higher anti-inflammatory diets, as indicated by E-DII scores, are associated with a lower fall risk among the elderly.

Supporting Evidence

  • The mean DII score was 0.56 and the E-DII was -0.08.
  • The DII model showed no significant association with fall risk.
  • The E-DII model demonstrated a significant inverse association with fall risk.

Takeaway

Eating foods that reduce inflammation can help older people avoid falling down.

Methodology

DII and E-DII scores were computed for a subsample of 8,035 respondents using self-reported data and logistic regression analyses.

Participant Demographics

Older adults from the Health and Retirement Study.
