Hypothesis
Infections may trigger the ANCA response against MPO through hHSP60.
Conclusion
Antibodies against mHSP65 are higher in AAV compared to healthy controls, and anti-hHSP60 antibodies are higher in patients with MPO-ANCA than in patients with PR3-ANCA and healthy controls.
Supporting Evidence
- Anti-mHSP65 levels were significantly higher in AAV compared to healthy controls.
- Anti-hHSP60 levels were significantly higher in MPO-ANCA compared to PR3-ANCA and healthy controls.
- No correlation was found between MPO-ANCA and anti-hHSP60 levels.
Takeaway
This study looked at patients with kidney disease and found that certain antibodies are higher in those with a specific type of kidney problem, suggesting infections might play a role.
Methodology
Antibodies were measured in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis using ELISA and compared to healthy controls.
Potential Biases
Potential bias due to the selection of patients from a single center.
Limitations
The study was retrospective and had a limited sample size.
Participant Demographics
Mean age of participants was 62.2 years, with 69% male.
