Hypothesis

This study investigates the expression of somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) in breast fibroepithelial lesions, specifically fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumours.

Conclusion

Both fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumours express somatostatin receptors, primarily in the stromal component.

Supporting Evidence

  • SSTR positivity was demonstrated in both fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumours.
  • The expression of SSTRs was primarily localized in the stromal component of the tumours.
  • This study is the first to report SSTR expression in phyllodes tumours at both cellular and molecular levels.
  • 177Lu-DOTATATE treatment caused shrinkage in fibroadenoma, suggesting potential therapeutic implications.

Takeaway

This study found that certain receptors in breast tumours could help doctors find better ways to treat them.

Methodology

Gene and protein expressions of SSTRs were investigated using RT-PCR and immunoblotting, with localization determined by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.

Limitations

The study is exploratory and requires validation with larger sample sizes.

Participant Demographics

Patients undergoing tumorectomy and mastectomy for fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumours.
