Hypothesis
To evaluate the role of primary transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) in the treatment of choroidal melanocytic lesions.
Conclusion
TTT may be useful in treating small choroidal melanocytic lesions, but high complication and recurrence rates require close monitoring.
Supporting Evidence
- 50% of eyes experienced complications after treatment.
- 9% of eyes developed recurrence by 1 year and 27% by 5 years.
- Globe salvage was achieved in 87.5% of patients.
Takeaway
Doctors used a special heat treatment on 24 patients with eye tumors, and while it helped some, many had problems afterward.
Methodology
Retrospective chart review of 24 patients treated with primary TTT for choroidal melanocytic lesions.
Limitations
The small number of cases analyzed may not reach statistical significance for some findings.
Participant Demographics
50% male and 50% female, mean age 56.9 years.
Statistical Information
Confidence Interval
95% confidence interval
Statistical Significance
