Hypothesis

The neoplastic transformation of adenomyosis implies an early carcinogenic event involving p53 and COX-2.

Conclusion

Adenocarcinoma in adenomyosis may be affected by local hormonal influence and, despite its small size, may metastasize.

Supporting Evidence

  • The patient had a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma measuring 0.8 cm.
  • Immunohistochemical studies showed strong positivity for estrogen receptors and COX-2.
  • The carcinoma was diagnosed after the patient underwent total hysterectomy.

Takeaway

A small tumor in a woman's uterus turned into cancer and spread to her lymph nodes, showing that even tiny tumors can be dangerous.

Methodology

The tissues were fixed in Bouin solution, embedded in paraffin, and stained for histologic processing and immunohistochemical studies.

Limitations

The study is based on a single case report, limiting generalizability.

Participant Demographics

The patient was a 57-year-old nulliparous woman.
