Hypothesis
This study aimed to assess the impact of bevacizumab on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic cervical cancer.
Conclusion
Bevacizumab significantly improves progression-free survival and overall survival in cervical cancer patients, especially those with stage IVB metastatic disease.
Supporting Evidence
- Bevacizumab-based therapy significantly improved progression-free survival with HR 0.77.
- Bevacizumab-based therapy significantly improved overall survival with HR 0.63.
- Subgroup analysis showed better efficacy of bevacizumab in stage IVB cervical cancer patients.
Takeaway
This study shows that adding a medicine called bevacizumab to chemotherapy helps women with cervical cancer live longer without their disease getting worse.
Methodology
This systematic review included 28 studies and analyzed progression-free survival and overall survival outcomes using hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals.
Potential Biases
The included studies showed a low to moderate risk of bias, with 19 studies rated as high quality.
Limitations
Differences in patient demographics and treatment methods may affect the generalizability of the findings.
Participant Demographics
Patients were predominantly female, aged 33 to 67.2 years, with a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma.
