Hypothesis

This study aimed to evaluate the viability and efficacy of modified medial capsulorrhaphy using figure-of-eight sutures for hallux valgus compared to the conventional technique.

Conclusion

Modified capsulorrhaphy using the figure-of-eight technique was better at maintaining corrected hallux valgus angle until the 6-month postoperative period.

Supporting Evidence

  • Both techniques were efficacious in decreasing hallux valgus angle.
  • The modified technique maintained correction better over time.
  • Statistical analysis showed significant differences in HVA changes between the two groups.

Takeaway

Doctors tried a new way to stitch the foot after surgery for a bunion, and it worked better than the old way at keeping the foot straight over time.

Methodology

Retrospective analysis comparing two groups of patients with hallux valgus who underwent different medial capsulorrhaphy techniques.

Potential Biases

Sample bias might have resulted from the homogenized surgical procedure.

Limitations

The study was retrospective with a small sample size and did not analyze the confounding effect of comorbidities.

Participant Demographics

Patients aged 39-67 years with mild to moderate hallux valgus.
