Hypothesis

Does the heterogeneous ribonuclear protein C (hnRNPC) interact with the hepatitis delta virus small antigen (S-HDAg) and influence its replication?

Conclusion

hnRNPC interacts with S-HDAg and may play a role in modulating hepatitis delta virus replication.

Supporting Evidence

  • Thirty known proteins were identified as S-HDAg interactors in the yeast two-hybrid screening.
  • hnRNPC was found to interact with S-HDAg in vitro and in vivo in human liver cells.
  • Knockdown of hnRNPC mRNA resulted in a marked decrease in HDV antigen expression.

Takeaway

This study found that a protein called hnRNPC works with a virus protein to help the virus replicate in liver cells.

Methodology

Yeast two-hybrid screening, co-immunoprecipitation, and siRNA knockdown assays were used to study the interaction between hnRNPC and S-HDAg.

Limitations

Further investigation is needed to clarify the exact role of hnRNPC in HDV replication.
