Hypothesis
This study aims to characterize the housekeeping and tissue-specific genes in 15 mouse tissues using the SAGE strategy.
Conclusion
The identified housekeeping genes can serve as appropriate controls for gene expression studies, and several tissue-specific genes were found to be highly expressed in specific tissues.
Supporting Evidence
- 1,111 ubiquitously expressed transcripts were identified.
- 280 genes were constantly expressed in all tissues.
- 61 tissue-specific transcripts were found in the testis.
Takeaway
The study looked at genes that are always active in all tissues and those that are special to certain tissues in mice, helping scientists understand how different tissues work.
Methodology
The study used the serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) strategy to analyze gene expression levels in various mouse tissues.
Limitations
The study focused only on 15 mouse tissues and may not represent all possible tissues or conditions.
Participant Demographics
C57BL6 mice (12–15 weeks old) were used in the study.
