Hypothesis
Fibrous dysplasia should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cystic lesions in the proximal femur.
Conclusion
The case illustrates that fibrous dysplasia must be included in differential diagnoses for cystic lesions.
Supporting Evidence
- Fibrous dysplasia represents approximately 2.5% of all bone lesions.
- Malignant transformations into high-grade fibro- or osteosarcomas are very rare.
- Pathological fractures are observed not infrequently in patients with fibrous dysplasia.
Takeaway
A 22-year-old woman had a painful cyst in her thigh, which turned out to be fibrous dysplasia, a rare bone condition.
Methodology
The patient underwent imaging studies, surgery, and histological examination.
Limitations
The study is based on a single case report.
Participant Demographics
