Hypothesis
This study aims to evaluate imaging patterns and staging of retinoblastoma in children at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH).
Conclusion
Most patients presented with advanced retinoblastoma, particularly Stage IV.
Supporting Evidence
- 42 patients (50.6%) presented with proptosis as a common symptom.
- 63 patients (75.9%) were classified in Group E according to IIRC.
- 33 patients (39.2%) were in Stage IVA and 18 (21.4%) in Stage IVB according to IRSS.
Takeaway
Retinoblastoma is a serious eye cancer in children, and many kids in Ethiopia are diagnosed too late, which makes it harder to treat.
Methodology
This cross-sectional study analyzed retrospective data from TASH between September 2018 and September 2021, focusing on patients diagnosed with retinoblastoma who underwent CT or MRI scans.
Potential Biases
Potential bias due to different physicians reporting imaging findings and histopathology results.
Limitations
The study's retrospective design may have led to incomplete data and inter-reader variability in imaging interpretation.
Participant Demographics
The study included 83 pediatric patients, with 42 males (50.6%) and 41 females (49.4%), aged 1 to 12 years, with a mean age of 3.4 years.
