Conclusion

Genital tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of right lower quadrant pain in women who live in tuberculosis-endemic regions.

Supporting Evidence

  • The patient presented with symptoms consistent with appendicitis but had a cystic mass instead.
  • Histopathological examination revealed a granuloma with caseating necrosis.
  • The patient was treated with anti-tuberculosis therapy for six months.

Takeaway

A 17-year-old girl had a cyst that looked like appendicitis, but it was actually caused by tuberculosis. After treatment, she got better.

Methodology

The patient underwent laparotomy where a cystic mass was excised, and histopathological examination confirmed tuberculosis.

Limitations

No microbiological evaluation was performed during surgery.

Participant Demographics

17-year-old single Turkish woman.
