Hypothesis
The study aimed to investigate the impact of dietary supplementation of Lawsonia inermis and Acacia nilotica extracts on the health and growth of broiler chickens challenged with coccidiosis.
Conclusion
Dietary supplementation of Lawsonia inermis powder and Acacia nilotica aqueous extract improved growth performance, blood metabolites, antioxidant status, and intestinal health in broiler chickens exposed to coccidiosis.
Supporting Evidence
- Challenged broilers had higher liver enzymes and lower antioxidant levels compared to unchallenged broilers.
- Supplementation with LIP and ANAE improved growth performance metrics significantly.
- Histopathological examination showed better intestinal health in treated groups compared to controls.
- Mortality rates were lower in groups receiving herbal supplements compared to the positive control.
Takeaway
Giving chickens special plant extracts can help them grow better and stay healthy, especially when they are sick.
Methodology
The study involved 240 one-day-old Ross chicks divided into 8 groups, with some challenged with coccidia and others unchallenged, and fed diets supplemented with either LIP, ANAE, or a combination.
Potential Biases
Potential bias may arise from the selection of specific plant extracts and the controlled environment of the study.
Limitations
The study was limited to a specific breed of chickens and may not be generalizable to other breeds or species.
Participant Demographics
The study involved Ross 308 broiler chicks, which are a common breed used in poultry research.
