Hypothesis
Pamidronate will provide effective pain relief and resolution of bone inflammation in pediatric patients with chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO).
Conclusion
Pamidronate resulted in resolution of pain and MRI documented inflammation in all patients.
Supporting Evidence
- All patients experienced a decrease in pain from 10/10 to 0–3/10 after the first treatment.
- The mean time to complete MRI resolution of bone inflammation was 6.0 months.
- Four patients had MRI confirmed CRMO recurrence, which responded to one pamidronate re-treatment.
- Patients maintained significant pain relief and functional improvement after treatment.
Takeaway
This study shows that a medicine called pamidronate can help kids with a painful bone condition feel better and heal their bones.
Methodology
Patients with CRMO were treated with intravenous pamidronate, and their pain and MRI results were monitored over time.
Limitations
The study is observational and uncontrolled, limiting the ability to draw definitive conclusions.
Participant Demographics
Nine pediatric patients (5 females, 4 males) with a median age of 12.9 years.
