Hypothesis

To investigate the clinical and ultrasound features of fibrous pseudotumor of tunica vaginalis of the testis.

Conclusion

Fibrous pseudotumor of the tunica vaginalis is a rare scrotal disease primarily affecting middle-aged and elderly men, typically presenting unilaterally with a favorable prognosis after surgical treatment.

Supporting Evidence

  • 87.5% of cases presented with painless nodules or masses.
  • 75% of lesions involved the tunica vaginalis wall.
  • 62.5% of cases exhibited hydrocele.
  • Most nodules were well-circumscribed and slightly hyperechoic or isoechoic.
  • The tunica vaginalis wall on the affected side was significantly thicker than the contralateral side.

Takeaway

This study looked at a rare testicular condition that mostly affects older men and found that it usually shows up as small lumps that can be seen on ultrasound.

Methodology

The clinical and ultrasound features of fibrous pseudotumor diagnosed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed from 2006 to 2023.

Limitations

The study covers a long time span with a small number of cases due to the rarity of the condition.

Participant Demographics

The average age of participants was 51.8 years, with a range from 25 to 80 years.
