Hypothesis

Composite resin with different filler types submitted to different types of polishing procedures produces different results of surface roughness and staining.

Conclusion

The multiple-step polishing technique provided lower discoloration for both composite resins.

Supporting Evidence

  • Sof-Lex resulted in lower staining.
  • Amelogen showed higher roughness values than Filtek Supreme.
  • All groups presented discoloration after storage in coffee solution.

Takeaway

This study looked at how different polishing methods affect the color and smoothness of dental materials. It found that using more steps in polishing helps keep them looking good.

Methodology

Specimens were divided into 6 groups based on composite resin and polishing method, then evaluated for color and roughness after immersion in coffee solution.

Limitations

The study was limited to two types of composite resins and specific polishing techniques.
