Hypothesis
There would be no significant differences in the anchorage loss of the posterior teeth and the amount of retraction of the anterior teeth using either OMI or CAR.
Conclusion
Orthodontic mini-implants provide better maximum anchorage and greater retraction of the upper anterior teeth than conventional anchorage reinforcements.
Supporting Evidence
- Group 2 showed significantly larger retraction of U1 than Group 1.
- Group 2 had less anchorage loss of U6 compared to Group 1.
- OMI led to an intrusion of the upper central incisor and first molar, while CAR resulted in extrusion.
Takeaway
This study looked at two ways to hold teeth in place while straightening them. One method worked better at keeping the back teeth stable and pulling the front teeth back.
Methodology
The study involved 40 female patients with Class I malocclusion, divided into two groups based on anchorage method, and used lateral cephalograms for measurement.
Potential Biases
Potential bias due to the exclusion of patients with craniofacial deformities and the focus on a single gender.
Limitations
The study was limited to female patients and may not generalize to other populations.
Participant Demographics
Korean female young adult patients aged 18 to 35 with Class I malocclusion.
