Hypothesis

To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in the management of arterial stenosis located close to the allograft anastomosis.

Conclusion

PTA is an effective initial treatment for transplant renal artery stenosis (TRAS) and close-TRAS, leading to improved graft function and reduced hypertension.

Supporting Evidence

  • PTA was successfully applied to all patients with iliac artery stenosis and TRAS.
  • No major procedure-related complications occurred.
  • Patients showed a decrease in serum creatinine levels and blood pressure after treatment.

Takeaway

Doctors can fix narrow blood vessels in kidney transplant patients using a special balloon treatment, which helps the kidney work better and lowers blood pressure.

Methodology

31 patients with renal transplants underwent angiography and were treated with PTA and stenting for arterial stenosis.

Limitations

The study is limited by its small group of patients.

Participant Demographics

27 patients with TRAS included 15 men and 12 women, aged 26 to 66 years.
