Hypothesis

Is it possible for carcinoma to develop in ectopic pancreatic tissue in the stomach?

Conclusion

This case report describes the first instance of endoepithelial carcinoma arising in a gastric heterotopic pancreas.

Supporting Evidence

  • The patient presented with epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Biopsies showed intense epithelial dysplasia with incipient malignant degeneration.
  • The pathology report confirmed an endoepithelial carcinoma in the gastric antrum.

Takeaway

Sometimes, pancreatic tissue can grow in the wrong place, like the stomach, and in rare cases, it can turn into cancer.

Methodology

The case involved esophagogastroduodenoscopy, biopsy, and distal gastrectomy.

Limitations

The rarity of the condition limits the generalizability of the findings.

Participant Demographics

A 56-year-old woman from Greece.
