Hypothesis

The authors propose a musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol using selected sequences for common orthopaedic indications.

Conclusion

The proposed MRI protocol allows for optimal visualization of pathologies while screening for other common conditions.

Supporting Evidence

  • The protocol was compiled for the Avanto 1.5T MRI scanner.
  • Standard positioning and orientation of scan planes are emphasized for better comparison with follow-up scans.
  • Selected sequences allow for optimal visualization of indicated pathologies.

Takeaway

This study suggests a way to take pictures of muscles and bones using MRI that helps doctors see problems clearly.

Methodology

The protocol includes suggestions for scan parameters, sequences, localiser planes, orientation of scan planes, and coverage.

Limitations

The protocol does not include tumour imaging aside from screening for metastasis and does not cover all MSK infections.
