Hypothesis

The study investigates the expression patterns of collagen type XVIII in different types of cancers.

Conclusion

High levels of collagen type XVIII were found in endothelial cells and fibroblasts in colorectal cancers and their liver metastases, while ovarian cancers showed high expression in both carcinoma and stromal cells.

Supporting Evidence

  • Collagen type XVIII is predominantly expressed by hepatocytes in various liver conditions.
  • High levels of C18 transcripts were observed in endothelial cells and fibroblasts in colorectal carcinomas.
  • Ovarian carcinomas displayed high C18 RNA expression in both carcinoma and stromal cells.

Takeaway

This study looks at a protein called collagen type XVIII in different cancers and finds it mostly in certain cells, which might help in developing new cancer treatments.

Methodology

The study used in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry to analyze RNA expression patterns.
