Hypothesis

To evaluate activity and toxicity of a non platinum-based triplet including Gemcitabine, Ifosfamide and Navelbine (GIN) in advanced NSCLC.

Conclusion

The GIN regimen showed promising activity against advanced non-small-cell lung cancer with manageable toxicity.

Supporting Evidence

  • The study included 50 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer.
  • A total of 200 treatment courses were administered, with a median of 4 courses per patient.
  • The response rate was 52%, with one complete response and 24 partial responses.
  • Neutropenia grade 3–4 occurred in 47% of the treatment courses.

Takeaway

This study tested a new combination of drugs for lung cancer and found it works well without using platinum-based treatments.

Methodology

Patients with advanced NSCLC received a combination of Gemcitabine, Ifosfamide, and Navelbine every three weeks, and their responses were evaluated.

Potential Biases

Potential bias due to the non-randomized nature of the study.

Limitations

The study had a small sample size and was limited to specific patient characteristics.

Participant Demographics

Median age of participants was 63 years, with 65% having an ECOG performance status of 0 and 79% having stage IV disease.
