Hypothesis
To compare the expressive patterns of the isoantigenic determinants of histo-blood groups ABH and Lewis in squamous and simple epithelium and in precursors and cancers of the cervix.
Conclusion
The study found a relationship between the losses of histo-blood groups and the progression of squamous intraepithelial lesions.
Supporting Evidence
- Invasive cervical carcinomas showed a loss of expression of the Lex antigen.
- Alterations in the patterns of expression of the ABH and Lewis blood group antigens were found.
- PCNA expression indicated a higher proliferative rate in advanced lesions.
Takeaway
This study looked at how certain blood group markers change in cervical cancer, finding that some markers disappear as the disease gets worse.
Methodology
The study used immunohistochemical techniques on 36 cervical lesions, including LG-SIL, HG-SIL, and invasive carcinomas, to analyze blood group antigen expression.
Participant Demographics
The study included samples from 30 patients with various cervical lesions.
