Hypothesis
The study aims to characterize the solid-state properties of Meloxicam in Gelucire 50/13 prepared using spray drying.
Conclusion
The study found that solid dispersions of Meloxicam prepared by spray drying with Gelucire 50/13 significantly improved solubility, dissolution rate, and anti-inflammatory activity compared to the drug alone.
Supporting Evidence
- The dissolution rate of encapsulated Meloxicam was 2.5-fold higher than that of the physical mixture and fourfold higher than the drug alone.
- The anti-inflammatory activity of the microparticles was fourfold higher compared to the drug alone.
- Spray drying yielded microparticles with 70-75% yield and 90-95% drug entrapment efficiency.
Takeaway
This study shows that mixing a medicine called Meloxicam with a special ingredient can help it dissolve better and work faster in the body.
Methodology
The study used spray drying to prepare solid dispersions and characterized them using scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and powder X-ray diffraction.
Participant Demographics
Rats weighing about 200 ± 20 gm were used in the anti-inflammatory activity assessment.
