Hypothesis
Using poly (difluoroaminomethyl-3-methylethoxybutane) (PDF) can enhance the energy release and combustion efficiency of aluminum powder.
Conclusion
The study found that the incorporation of NF2 in Al/PDF composites significantly improved the energy release and combustion properties of aluminum powder.
Supporting Evidence
- Al/PDF composites showed improved hydrophobicity compared to uncoated aluminum powder.
- The ignition delay of Al/PDF was significantly reduced, enhancing combustion stability.
- NF2 in the PDF layer improved the catalytic behavior of Al/PDF on ammonium perchlorate decomposition.
- Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the amount of PDF layer was related to the powder size of aluminum.
- X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the presence of NF2 on the surface of Al/PDF composites.
Takeaway
This study shows that adding a special coating to aluminum powder helps it burn better and release more energy, which is useful for making better rocket fuels.
Methodology
Aluminum powder was coated with PDF using a solvent/non-solvent method, and the resulting composites were characterized for their morphology, hydrophobicity, and combustion properties.
